What are the Facebook ad dimensions for different types of ads?

When it comes to Facebook ad dimensions, it’s important to note that different types and placements have different recommended dimensions. See below:

Facebook ad dimensions for Inbox ads

Facebook ad dimensions for Inbox ads

Inbox ads are yet another form of Messenger ads that you can use to send all kinds of offers to users. As the name indicates, they appear right in the users’ inboxes, looking just like normal messages, and they can include text, images, and calls to action.

Note that Inbox ads aren’t available to people in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and France due to data privacy laws.

Here are the recommended Facebook ad dimensions for Inbox ads:

  • Media types: JPG and PNG
  • Recommended resolution: at least 1080 x 1080 pixels (the minimum resolution is 254 x 133 pixels, and there’s no maximum resolution)
  • Maximum file size: 30 megabytes
  • Image ratio: 1:1 (you can upload images with an aspect ratio going from 16:9 to 9:16, but they’ll get cropped)
  • Characters limits: 125 characters for the ad’s preview, and up to 25 characters for the headline

Facebook ad dimensions for Story ads

Facebook ad dimensions for Story ads

Stories are becoming more popular by the hour among Facebook users, which is why you should jump on the bandwagon of Story Ads before it’s too late.

Story ads can be shown to people across most of Meta’s properties, including Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger. They can include both videos (up to two minutes per video) and images (every image gets displayed for five seconds).

Here are the recommended Facebook ad dimensions for Story ads:

  • Media types: Images (JPG or PNG) and videos (GIFs, MP4, MOV)
  • Recommended resolution: at least 1080 x 1080 pixels, for both images and videos
  • Minimum width: 500 pixels
  • Maximum size: 30 megabytes for images, 4 gigabytes for videos
  • Recommended ratio: 9:16. It’s important to note that ratios from 1.91:1 to 9:16 are supported (On Instagram, ratios from 16:9 to 4:5 and 9:16 are supported). That said, if your image or video has a ratio that’s under 9:16, a couple of coloured gradient bars will be added above and below your visual. Furthermore, the content from the primary text will be displayed below the image or video
  • Video length limits: from one second to 2 minutes (up to one minute on Instagram)
  • Recommended character limits: up to 125 characters for the primary text, and up to 40 characters for the headline

Here’s a pro tip: when creating the visuals for your Story ads, avoid adding text within around 250 pixels at the top and bottom to avoid covering your profile picture and call to action.

It’s important to note that these are just Facebook’s official recommendations. That said, it’s always a good idea to stick as closely as possible to these dimensions to ensure that your ads look their best and perform well. For example, as mentioned, if you’re running a single image ad, Facebook recommends that the image be at least 1080 x 1080 pixels, but it can be larger. Should you use a smaller image, it might be blurry or pixelated, or it might even be rejected by Facebook.

Another important aspect to consider is the aspect ratio, which is the ratio of width to height. For example, the recommended aspect ratio for a single image ad is 1.9:1. This means that the width of the image should be 1.9 times its height. Keep in mind that using an aspect ratio that is too different from the recommended one might make your ad look odd or not fit well in the space.
